To reduce comebacks on some common rear wheel drive transmissions, here are some of the parts we recommend to our customer's in addition to the normal, rebuild kit, bushings,
 bands, torque converter etc.
There are also many ATRA recommended modifications that can be done on almost every unit. 
For example full time lube, stronger lockup and shifts, etc.
The replacement of hard parts necessary varies on each and every job, after teardown of the transmission and inspection.
On every transmission, you have to determine what is needed to ensure the best quality job for your customer.
The severity of the debris inside the transmission, the age and mileage also play a part in your cooler decisions.
Every cooler is flushed, if not bypassed with an external cooler. Some may also require an inline filter.
Many of the shift / recalibration kits listed have upgraded / replacement parts. Many also have good advice on what to look out for
 on that particular valve body and unit.

   o  = Revised valve body end plate and new pump cover.
   oo = Bypass radiator, add external 40,000 GVW  rated Tru- Cool trans cooler and eliminate or replace
            one way valve in the cooler line.
   oX = Replace boost valve sleeve and tcc relay valve sleeve and add an external cooler
as needed.
   XX = Shift / Recalibration kit w / pump alignment tool.

 Rear Weel Drive
4L30E      The internal electrical and boost valve sleeve, wear out and can cause erratic shifting / pressure problems. The boost valve sleeve and new internal electrical is recommended.
5L40E      The internal electrical and boost valve sleeve, wear out and can cause erratic shifting / pressure problems. The forward sprag can cause no or erratic forward engagement. The boost valve sleeve, forward sprag and new internal electrical is recommended.
700R4      The valve body plates commonly wear out, causing burnt up 3-4 clutches and harsh 1-2 upshifts. The forward sprag can cause no or erratic forward engagement. The seperator plate and forward sprag are recommended.
4L60E      The valve body  plate commonly wears out, causing burnt up 3-4 clutches and harsh 1-2 upshifts. The forward sprag can cause no or erratic forward engagement. we install an upgraded shell on every unit as o.e.m shells can break / strip.  I  install a corvette servo on the larger vehicles and when the customer desires firmer shifts. New internal electrical,  valve body plate and forward sprag are recommended.
4L80E      The shift / recalibration kits address many of the modifications / upgrades this transmission needs.  New internal electrical,  valve body plate and forward sprag are recommended.
A4LD      The shift / recalibration kits address many of the modifications / upgrades this transmission needs.  The forward sprag can cause no or erratic forward engagement.
5R55E       The shift / recalibration kits address many of the modifications / upgrades this transmission needs. The forward sprag can cause no or erratic forward engagement. New internal electrical is recommended.
5R55SNW The shift / recalibration kits address many of the modifications / upgrades this transmission needs. The forward sprag can cause no or erratic forward engagement. New internal solenoid pack is recommended ( they often go bad ). Both intermediate and over / drive servo bores commonly wear out.  This causes erratic shifts and the check engine light to come on when hot. Both servos  need to be reamed out and new sleeves installed. ( tools required )
4R70W      The e.p.c solenoid on this unit commonly goes bad.  The shift / recalibration kits address many of the modifications / upgrades this transmission needs. Make sure you replace the epc solenoid, boost valve and upgrade to a spiral retainer ring on the intermediate sprag.
E4OD        The shift / recalibration kits address many of the modifications / upgrades this transmission needs. Make sure you replace the boost valve and upgrade to a spiral retainer ring on the over drive spring.  We recommend a billet style torque converter and 40.000 g.v.w rated cooler on diesels and large trucks. New internal solenoid pack is recommended.
4R100       The shift / recalibration kits address many of the modifications this transmission needs. Make sure you replace the boost valve and upgrade to a spiral retainer ring on the over drive spring.   I  recommend a billet style torque converter and 40.000 g.v.w rated cooler on diesels and large trucks. New internal solenoid pack is recommended.
5R110W    The shift / recalibration kits address many of the modifications this transmission needs. I recommend a billet style torque converter and 40.000 g.v.w rated cooler on diesels and large trucks. New internal electrical is recommended.
46RE        The shift / recalibration kits address many of the modifications / upgrades this transmission needs.  I  recommend replacing the governor pressure and governor transducer and turbine speed sensors on all units. Watch out for trans fluid in the cavity of the internal 8 pin wire harness connector.  Check your valve body plate carefully replace if at all worn. If heavy debris is present, Replace or remove inline one way valve in the cooler line.
48RE       The shift / recalibration kits address many of the modifications / upgrades this transmission needs.  I  recommend replacing the governor pressure and governor transducer and turbine speed sensors on all units. Watch out for trans fluid in the cavity of the internal 8 pin wire harness connector. Check your valve body plate carefully replace if  worn at all. If heavy debris is present, Replace or remove inline one way valve in the cooler line. We recommend a billet style torque converter and 40.000 g.v.w rated cooler on diesels and large trucks.
45RFE    The shift / recalibration kits address many of the modifications / upgrades this transmission needs. Make sure you upgrade the valve body accumulator cover plate ( the o.e.m style bend and or break ) and install a new pump cover on ever unit. New solenoid pack is recommended.
A340      The boost valve and tcc relay valve in the valve body wear out. I replace boost valve sleeve and tcc relay valve sleeve on every unit. Add an external cooler as needed. You have to keep this transmission cool. They have a history of over heating. The sprag in the rear planet should be checked carefully.
